DNAP student gets published in critical care journal
Erin Ryan, a current student in the Doctorate of Nurse Anesthesia Program (DNAP), was one of 12 authors invited to contribute to the March issue of Critical Care Nursing Clinics of North America.
There are approximately 48,000 certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) providing care in all settings in the United States. Less than one percent of CRNAs publish yearly, and even fewer publish outside of anesthesia-related journals. By publishing in this journal, Ryan is able to share her anesthesia expertise with critical care nurses.
Ryan’s article, titled Pediatric Emergencies, focuses on examining children, accurately assessing medication dosages and looks at the different techniques of pediatric advanced life support. Pediatric patients have unique problems compared to their adult counterparts, and articles such as this one help keep the nursing community abreast of the latest medical advancements and processes.
About the Journal
Published quarterly, the journal is a valuable resource for, and is widely read by, critical care nurses. Articles provide relevant clinical findings with insights on how to implement them in to daily practice.
The title of the March issue is "Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesia: Critical Care Nursing in the Operating Room." Focused on the relationship between critical care nursing and anesthesia care, the authors discuss the use of critical nursing skills within their specialty practice, and how it affects the complex situations of an operating room.
Other topics included in the journal are intraoperative cardiac emergencies, massive transfusion for hemorrhagic shock and operative care of obstetric patients.
