Texas Wesleyan University and McMurry Univeristy have forms a strategic partnership that will provide students with a seamless pathway to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. This collaboration underscores the institutions' shared commitment to fostering student success, increasing diversity in the nursing workforce, and addressing the critical demand for healthcare professionals.

Texas Wesleyan is establishing a new Associate of Arts in Science degree that will begin enrollment in fall 2025, pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). With this agreement, students who complete TXWES’ associates degree and meet admission criteria will have guaranteed access to Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing’s BSN program offered through McMurry University, which is Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited and Texas Board of Nursing (TXBON) approved.

Eligible students will benefit from a streamlined admissions process, waived application fees, access to academic advisors, and availability of at least 30 spots in McMurry's BSN program annually. Students will also be advised of financial aid and scholarship opportunities as they progress through the program.

“This new partnership allows for a more seamless transition between our universities for students pursuing nursing careers,” said Dr. Donalyn Alexander, dean of Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing. “We are excited to work alongside Texas Wesleyan to offer aspiring nurses a comprehensive and enriching academic experience.”

Dr. Emily Messer, president at Texas Wesleyan University, said, “This agreement enhances our efforts to provide students with meaningful opportunities to advance their education and enter a vital profession. We are confident this pathway will prepare students to thrive in McMurry’s rigorous BSN program and beyond.”

“Broadening access to nursing education is a common goal for McMurry and Texas Wesleyan,” University President Dr. Sandra S. Harper said. “We are excited to see the success these students will achieve with the right tools, support, and preparation.”

As part of McMurry University’s academic offerings, the BSN program reflects a long-standing commitment to equipping students with the knowledge, skills and experience needed to meet today’s complex healthcare challenges.
