Texas Wesleyan University has announced a new partnership with Girls Inc. of Tarrant County (GITC), a chapter of the renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering girls and young women. Founded in 1864, Girls Inc. has a rich history of supporting girls, particularly during challenging times like the Civil War. Today, their mission remains steadfast: to inspire all girls to be strong, smart and bold.

Texas Wesleyan University's partnership with Girls Inc. of Tarrant County aims to provide young women with the tools and skills they need to succeed in college, while also impacting the university and the broader community.

"As a female leader, I am particularly proud of this partnership with Girls Inc. of Tarrant County,” said Dr. Emily Messer, President of TXWES. “This collaboration aligns perfectly with our mission to empower students, and I am excited to see the positive impact it will have on the young women in our community. By providing them with the tools and support they need to succeed, we are investing in the future leaders of tomorrow."

Through this partnership, young women will have access to a variety of resources and programs, including continued mentorship from Girls Inc. while in college, leadership development and career exploration. Many of the young women in Girls Inc. also have access to Texas Wesleyan’s Tarrant To & Through (T3) Partnership, which offers additional scholarships, admissions events, networking and more.

“Girls Inc. of Tarrant County is excited to partner with Texas Wesleyan University to provide our girls with additional opportunities to succeed in school and life,” said Jennifer Limas, CEO of GITC. “This partnership will provide girls with even more access to college and career resources, mentorship and role models.”

GITC has a long history of preparing girls for college. In 2023, 98% of Girls Inc. girls reported feeling confident they would graduate high school and 89% expected themselves to graduate from college.

By nurturing the next generation of female leaders, this partnership will not only benefit Texas Wesleyan University through increased enrollment opportunities but also strengthen the community by producing career-ready women who are equipped to make a significant impact.
