About Marjorie Herrera Lewis
Following her graduation from ASU, Marjorie Lewis worked as a staff writer and sports editor at several newspapers, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and in 1984 was given the opportunity to cover the Dallas Cowboys. It was during that time, that she also covered the men’s basketball team at Texas Wesleyan College. She fondly remembers her time on the East Fort Worth campus and the hospitality that was shared with her by the coaches and student athletes.
Marjorie Lewis, a sports writer, sports editor, journalism instructor and author, established an endowment at TXWES to provide support for the creation of a speakers series focused on the field of sports journalism/sports media. Lewis notes, “My hope is that this speaker series will energize students who want to study and learn about the field.” The endowed fund supports a variety of opportunities, and may include lecture events, guest panels, one-on-one interviews, debate forums, and presentation/mixed media events. The endowment also honors The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
