Baseball always played a huge role in the life of Gary T. Balch ’74 who played the sport during his time at Texas Wesleyan.
Throughout the years, Balch has given back to his community through the sport he loves, including 15 years of volunteering as a youth baseball coach, league commissioner, equipment manager, vice president, then president of the Everman Youth Baseball Association, as well as coach for the Everman High School summer baseball program for eight years.
Gary served as a member and then president of the Everman High School Athletic Booster Club for eight years. Presently, Gary serves as president of the Everman ISD Board of Trustees, beginning his 19th year on the board.
On Feb. 18, a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony attended by over 250 people was held for the newly remodeled Everman High School baseball stadium, which was named Gary T. Balch Ballpark, honoring 40+ years of dedication and volunteer service to the Everman community and school district.
Everyone at the ballpark-themed reception and ceremony had a wonderful time celebrating Balch. Former teammates from Little League up to Texas Wesleyan attended the ceremony, as well as many players he coached through the years. During the ceremony, Everman ISD superintendent, athletic director and baseball coach shared how Balch has positively impacted EISD over the years by being a vocal supporter of athletics, serving all students as a School Board member and creating a lasting impression on Everman Youth & EISD baseball players over the years...his sons being 2 of those youth players who are Texas Wesleyan graduates themselves.
