Kennedy Cedillo is a senior majoring in Psychology. As a recipient of the 2021 Alumni Association Legacy Student Scholarship, Kennedy has deep Texas Wesleyan roots, with both of her parents and her older sister attending the University before she did. TXWES has always been her second home, though the familiarity was only a fraction of why she ultimately decided to pursue her own education here. “Even though I followed in my family’s footsteps, I chose TXWES because of the amazing environment that it portrays. The small classes, the understanding professors, and the amazing students that I have encountered at Texas Wesleyan is the reason why I love continuing my education here.” Kennedy is happy to continue the family tradition of being a Ram!

About being an alumni scholarship recipient, Kennedy says that she feels “blessed,” to be able to go to college and become a Ram – two of her lifelong dreams. “Being able to achieve both of those goals without the worry of how I am going to afford it shows me that hard work and dedication truly does pay off in the end.” For Kennedy, going to college is all about experiencing higher education, learning about the real world, as well as making life-long memories. Receiving the alumni scholarship has helped make her educational journey possible. 

Her advice to fellow Rams, both present and future, is to enjoy every bit of their time at Texas Wesleyan. She recommends that students take the time to get to know others in their classes and make good impressions on their professors. “Even after graduation, the time you spent with your classmates and the connections you made with your professors goes a long way.” We couldn’t agree more!

After graduation, Kennedy plans to continue growing in her current workspace for an after-school program in Northwest ISD, where she recently received a promotion! She aims to continue learning about after-school care and the important role that it can play in a child’s life and development.
