Fort Worth mayor Mattie Parker spoke to the attendees, and shared her experiences working with Lewis in public service. She also spoke about the importance of Texas Wesleyan to the greater Fort Worth community. Other speakers included County Commissioner Roy Brooks and Fort Worth City Councilman Chris Nettles.
Chairman Lewis, a lifelong resident of East Fort Worth, strives to exemplify strong leadership and support Texas Wesleyan’s rise as a “center of academic excellence and culture and athletic accomplishment.” About Texas Wesleyan’s impact on the community, Lewis says, “I believe that we have the potential to become so well known for our excellence that it can instill a sense of pride and accomplishment that will permeate the surrounding community and attract both material and human investment.”
Lewis was unanimously elected, and will be the first person of color to serve as chair in Texas Wesleyan’s 131-year history.
