Dean Philips is a senior theatre major who believes in working hard and staying focused. He is grateful for the scholarship because it gives him the motivation to continue the things he cares about most such as his “grades and playwriting.”

Philips is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. Along with his involvement as a theatre major, he is a musician. He practices constantly – mostly guitar and drums – and his passions include, “making short films while also studying the history of film and writing just for fun.”

Dean loves being involved with the Texas Wesleyan theatre community as much as possible. He has acted in several shows and last year won the Playmarket writing contest, which resulted in his play being read in a historic theatre in New York.

“I really love the sense of community within the school. Everyone from professors to students are always very supportive of each other's departments and events,” Philips said.
