Join us for a Veterans Day event from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11 as we celebrate and honor veterans in the RAMily with thank-yous, desserts and more.
"[Veterans Day] is held in honor of all of those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces," writes TXWES staff member and veteran Juan Azcarate, "This is different from Memorial Day which honors those who died while serving."
Veterans Day was originally known as Armistice Day, and honored those soldiers who served in World War I. Nov. 11 was selected due to the WWI armistice being signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In 2010, there were around 21.8 million veterans in the U.S., including 9 million over the age of 65 and 1.6 million women.
