After 16 years of dedicated service and leadership, Allen Henderson, Ph.D., has decided to step down as vice president of academic affairs and provost at Texas Wesleyan University. He will serve as an advisor to interim provost Dr. Hector Quintanilla during the fall of 2019 and will transition into a full-time faculty role in the Department of Psychology in the fall of 2020.
“It has been an honor to work on behalf of the whole university to positively impact students, the academic and administrative areas of the university, as well as community outreach involving partnerships with TCC, FWISD, other universities and community organizations,” Dr. Henderson said.
Henderson has been with Texas Wesleyan since 1979, including the last 16 years as provost. On Jan. 1, Dr. Henderson will begin a sabbatical to prepare for his return to teaching. A national search for a permanent VP of academic affairs and provost will begin in Fall 2020.
“Allen was the longest-serving provost in the 129-year history of the Texas Wesleyan. His leadership, dedication, hard work and commitment to Texas Wesleyan has been an integral part of tremendous growth and change,” President Frederick G. Slabach said. “I am pleased that Allen is looking forward to returning to the faculty but his leadership and presence as provost will be greatly missed.”
