Dr. Twyla Miranda, professor of education, former director of the Doctor of Education program and Faculty Senate Chair, will keynote and lead faculty discussion this year at the CETL Summer Institute. Miranda has served as an instructor and as both undergraduate and masters department chair during her tenure in the School of Education. She is also a facilitator of Courage to Teach® and Circles of Trust®.

Through research studies, faculty leadership of study abroad, and grants, Miranda has experienced multiple opportunities for travel. In August 2008, Miranda was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to participate in the Teacher Educators Seminar in India. She visited Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai to observe culture and school.

Miranda is the recipient of the Earl Brown Distinguished Faculty Award and the Wesleyan Flame award. In 2016, she received a Bass Grant to present “The Adult Learner: A Case Study of Three Effective Educators” at the Oxford Research Conference in Oxford, UK. Published articles and chapters in books highlight her research interests in literacy, teacher formation, cultural understandings, and academics. 

Miranda received her B.S., magna cum laude, from Abilene Christian University; her Masters of Education from Central State University, Edmond, OK; and her Ph.D. from the University of North Texas. 

Miranda will lead the CETL Summer Institute with an in-depth interactive session in the area of critical thinking and diversity. Her session is entitled, “Conversations All Students Deserve to Have: Supporting Diverse Perspectives from a Diverse Student."
