As we enter Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s important to shine a spotlight on individuals who symbolize the values of dedication, culture and community. One such figure is Jacob Sanchez, an alumnus of Texas Wesleyan University and a key staff member in the theater department. 

Born and raised in Fort Worth’s North Side, Sanchez graduated from TXWES in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theater. Now serving as the marketing and recruitment manager for the theater department, his journey at Texas Wesleyan began long before his staff role. During his undergraduate years from 2011 to 2015, Sanchez assisted in the theater department, and after graduation, he knew he wanted to stay. 

Sanchez’s passion for TXWES and its mission is evident in his own words: “Texas Wesleyan is a place that acknowledges the work that I have done, and they truly understand what I bring to the table. A part of that also comes from being a part of the family, and the continued trust they have in me. It’s a place where I can use all my skills to the best of my ability.” 

Shortly after graduating, Sanchez was offered a full-time position with the department he had supported, a role that allowed him to continue contributing to a space he deeply loved. His commitment to the theater community goes beyond his administrative duties. Sanchez takes pride in being a strong advocate for students, particularly those facing challenges similar to those he experienced. 

 “I want to be a better advocate for the students who are going through similar experiences and need to feel supported,” he shares, emphasizing the importance of attending theater performances and inviting the broader community to join in that support. 

Sanchez believes that his time at TXWES has helped shape him into a well-rounded individual, not just within the realm of theater, but in life beyond the stage. The relationships he has cultivated as both a student and a staff member have enhanced his experience, allowing him to thrive in every aspect of his role. 

One of the core values Sanchez promotes is the importance of mental and physical health, particularly for theater students who often face high-pressure environments. He strongly recommends the mental health resources available at TXWES, recognizing their critical role in student success. 

Sanchez’s Mexican-American heritage has also played a significant role in his academic and professional journey. A recipient of a full-ride scholarship from the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, his background has been a source of strength and pride, fueling his drive to give back to his community. 

Through his dedication to his work and his advocacy for students, Sanchez embodies the spirit of Hispanic Heritage Month at Texas Wesleyan University. His contributions to the theater department and his ongoing support for students make him a figure worth celebrating as we honor the rich cultural history that shapes our community.
