In partnership with The Big Read, Artes de la Rosa will perform “The Grapes of Wrath: A Living Scrapbook” from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Martin Hall.
The play, which debuts March 28 at Rose Marine Theater, is a bilingual staging of the cultural significance of The Grapes of Wrath. Ten actors draw on both Spanish and English to tell the story of the Dust Bowl/Great Depression era.
Scrapbook is a multimedia experience that also utilizes photography and music to bring the era of John Steinbeck’s classic book to life. Viewers feel the grit and desperation of the hard times when food and work were all too scarce.
The play is written, directed and produced by Adam Adolfo. ADLR alum Stephanie Cleghorn, Carlos Iruegas, Laura Watson, and Jimmy Moreno take the stage with Artes Academy students Hunter Hurt and Anna Varela. Making their debut on the stage at Rose Marine Theater is Wes Cantrell, Cassandra Clarke, Jeremy Jackson and Kristin Spires.
In lieu of a ticket, patrons can bring a nonperishable food item or a cash donation for the Tarrant Area Food Bank for admission.
