Beverly Volkman Powell honored by the Fort Worth Business Press
Texas Wesleyan Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Beverly Volkman Powell ’92 MBA ’99, has been selected as a 2014 Great Women of Texas honoree by the Fort Worth Business Press.
The Great Women of Texas program honors outstanding women in Texas for their significant accomplishments in business, civic and social contributions.
“Beverly could not be more deserving of this honor,” President Frederick G. Slabach said. “She has made, and continues to make, a significant impact in business and as an education leader. The entire Texas Wesleyan community is proud to see her recognized by the Fort Worth Business Press.”
As a residential and commercial developer, Powell has been a key figure in the growth of her hometown of Burleson.
Powell is the immediate past president of the Burleson ISD Board of Trustees. She was awarded the 2014 Pillar of the Community honor by Hill College. The award recognizes her work with Burleson’s Higher Education Initiative, which has increased scholarship funding for Burleson’s college-bound students.
Powell was elected Texas Wesleyan Board of Trustee Chairman in April 2014. She has served on the Board of Trustees for 14 years and has chaired the Academic Affairs, Personnel and Buildings and Grounds committees. Prior to being elected Chairman, Powell served as Vice Chairman.
