CETL starts the year with kickoff event and book club

Excitement is brewing in the Center of Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) with the Fall Kickoff just one week away! We are pleased to announce that on August 15, the Fall Kickoffs’ Keynote speaker will be Mark Algren, director of the Applied English Center at the University of Kansas. Here is a sneak peak of the topics Marks will cover in his hour and a half seminar:

  • ways to enhance the classroom experience for both international and domestic students student collaboration
  • promoting student engagement

This year’s theme for the Fall Kickoff is “Engaging with Students” and awesome workshops for you to attend. To learn more about the Fall Kickoff and the workshops we have scheduled check out the CETL webpage. Don’t forget to register, especially if you would like lunch! 

Can’t make the Fall Kickoff? That’s okay! Workshops in the CETL start August 22 and run through the first week of December. CETL is offering workshops on:

  • Blackboard
  • Critical Thinking
  • Course Design (Face-to-Face, Hybrid, Online)
  • Social Media
  • Mobile Devices
  • and many more

In additional to the Fall Kickoff and workshops throughout the year, CETL also offers individual consultations and a semester-long book club! Individual consultations can be made by contacting the CETL office at cetl@txwes.edu or 817-531-6563. 

Interested in joining the book club? The book club starts in September and meetings are held biweekly. Those interested can participate in face to face meetings, via Google Handout, or blogging on the CETL site. The fall 2013 book club selection is “Teaching the Unprepared Student” by Kathleen Gabriel. More information about the Book Club can be found by clicking this link. CETL also has a wonderful library filled with teaching resources for Faculty.
