Kay Colley, assistant professor of mass communications, was one of six members of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication selected as a recipient of a 2012 Scripps Howard Foundation/AEJMC Social Media Externship Grant, announced Friday, May 11.
Colley will spend two weeks this summer at the Miami Herald, learning how the newspaper uses social media in a real-world setting. As part of the grant, a media professional from the Herald will also visit the Texas Wesleyan campus for five days during the 2012-13 school year.
Colley was selected from 53 applications reviewed by AEJMC panel.
The Scripps Howard Foundation was founded 133 years ago, and is the corporate philanthropy of the E.W. Scripps Company, which operates TV stations and newspapers throughout the U.S. AEJMC is a nonprofit, educational association of journalism and mass communication educators, students and media professionals.
