Texas Wesleyan clears the air on campus with new tobacco-free, smoke-free policy
Effective Aug. 20, 2014, Texas Wesleyan University will be a tobacco-free, smoke-free campus.
At Texas Wesleyan, we strive to promote the health, well-being and safety of all of our students, faculty, staff and campus visitors. For several years we have prohibited smoking inside our buildings. Our ongoing commitment to encourage and support healthy lifestyles brought growing interest to become a 100 percent tobacco-free campus and led to the official adoption of a campus-wide tobacco-free policy with the support of student government, faculty and staff.
There is no safe tobacco product. Therefore, the following products are prohibited on the Texas Wesleyan campus at all times:
- cigarettes
- cigars
- pipes
- smokeless tobacco
- electronic cigarettes
- other tobacco products
Violators will be subject to penalties explained in the tobacco-free policy.
We expect that our campus community will voluntarily comply with the policy. It is the responsibility of everyone on campus to inform others of the new policy and ask that they extinguish their cigarette and/or refrain from using tobacco products on campus.
