With my next GEM Award, I would like to recognize our table tennis team, especially coaches Jasna Rather and Keith Evans.
The Texas Wesleyan table tennis team won 11 national championship titles in the team/coed category in 11 years.
Very few collegiate programs in the U.S. or world have accomplished such a winning streak. In fact, the only programs to have more consecutive winning streaks are Methodist University women's golf (15 in row), Trinity University men's squash (13 in a row) and the University of Arkansas men's track and field (12 in a row).
This season, the Rams had another remarkable run. They swept the regional tournament competition, which was held in the Sid Richardson Center gym. Rival Mississippi College took home the coed championship during the national tournament, after a tough-fought match point against our Rams.
As the post-tournament headline read, "the dynasty lives on." Knowing the enthusiasm and spirit of our coaches and players, I know that this is beginning of our next winning streak.
Our table tennis team is a big source of pride for Texas Wesleyan. Please join me in congratulating the coaches and players on a great season.
