Volleyball team receives AVCA Academic Award with 3.43 GPA
The Texas Wesleyan volleyball team added yet another academic award for the 2014-15 season. The squad is one of a record 752 teams nationwide honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) for academic excellence.
The AVCA Team Academic Award has honored collegiate and high school teams for excellence in the classroom since 1993. To receive the honor, a team must hold a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. The 752 recipients surpassed the previous record of 676 in 2013-14.
The Lady Rams notched a GPA of 3.43. They were one of five Texas Wesleyan teams to receive the NAIA Scholar team award, joining the women's indoor and outdoor track & field, women's cross country and women's golf programs.
The volleyball team featured a pair of NAIA Scholar-Athletes (minimum 3.5 GPA) and five Academic All-Conference players (minimum 3.25 GPA), while nine players were named to the Sooner Athletic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll (minimum 3.0 GPA).
The Lady Rams are set to begin the 2015 season when they host the SAC/RRAC Conference Clash in the Sid Richardson Center August 21-22.
