Peyton Foster’s journey as a student-athlete at Texas Wesleyan University is a testament to resilience, growth and the power of community. Originally from Houston, Foster double majors in business marketing and business management. She has made her mark on the women’s basketball team, not just as a player but as a leader, both on and off the court.

As a team captain, Foster embraced her leadership role with determination, striving to set an example for her teammates. “Success is about people coming together as a whole and working through conflict and disadvantages. A good leader isn’t just someone who leads, but someone who helps others grow, motivates them and celebrates their achievements, big or small,” said Foster.

Foster takes pride in building a unified team, overcoming obstacles together and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. She finds motivation in the opportunities she’s been given, reminding herself of those who would trade anything for the chance to walk in her shoes.
“Peyton actively celebrates everyone on the team no matter how big or small the accomplishment is. She helps create an environment where everyone feels valued and supported,” said Sophia Hurtado, a teammate at Hill Junior College and Texas Wesleyan.

However, her experience wasn’t without challenges. During her senior year of high school, Foster faced a pivotal moment when she considered quitting basketball altogether. Coach Hyland, a junior college coach at the time, reached out to her and reignited her passion for the game, recognizing her potential and pushing her to take pride in it That mentorship became a cornerstone of her growth, shaping her perspective on basketball, life and leadership.

Foster’s transition to Texas Wesleyan was a unique one. She followed Coach Hyland from junior college to his new role coaching women’s basketball at TXWES. He believed in her and wanted her to join the program, speaking volumes about the bond they share and Foster’s impact as a player. That connection brought Foster to Texas Wesleyan, where she embraced her new environment with open arms and determination to succeed.

Mental health plays a significant role in Foster's life. Her father had an immense impact on her life, even though he's no longer physically with her, "He is the reason I push myself every day to be better, to keep fighting and to always give it my best," she said.

Foster's advice? "Lean on friends, family and self-care. It's what allows you to find balance and stay grounded through the tough times."

Side note: TXWES students also have access to free healthcare services, including mental health, through TimelyCare.

With graduation on the horizon, she dreams of becoming the CEO of a high-end sales business using her experiences and education to make a lasting impact.

“I am proud of my journey as a college athlete, earning a full scholarship, and paving the way for my future goals,” Foster said.

Foster’s story is one of resilience, gratitude and an unwavering drive to achieve greatness. It’s a reminder that challenges are merely stepping stones to success, and with the right mindset and support system, anything is possible.
