ASC Tutor Spotlight: McKenzie Brown to study at Oxford University
Our tutors in the Academic Success Center are exceptional at what they do. Their determination to excel in their academic life provides them with opportunities to enhance their education during their time at Texas Wesleyan.
McKenzie Brown, religion and writing tutor in the ASC, is one such individual. She has been chosen to study at Wycliffe Hall, a college within the University of Oxford, which is the oldest English-speaking university in the world.
She applied for the Scholars' Semester in Oxford (SSO) with the encouragement of Dr. Kendra Irons, a visiting assistant professor of religion.
"I never thought attending a school like Oxford would be realistic for me," said McKenzie Brown, a senior Christian Studies major.
Ready for a Challenge
The SSO is organized by Scholarship & Christianity in Oxford (SCIO), and is an extensive study experience that challenges even the brightest of minds on topics from many different subjects. When McKenzie returns to Texas Wesleyan for her last semester in the spring, she will have earned 17 hours credit.
When asked about the difficulty of her venture, Brown said she knows it will be a challenge, but she's ready to work hard.
"I'll definitely have to acclimate to the different style and standards of scholarship over there, but it's something I want with all my heart, so I'm going to make it happen."
While we are excited about this opportunity for McKenzie, we will miss her entertaining wit in the ASC.
