Since 1988, Texas Wesleyan University has partnered with local area middle schools to bring the Expanding Your Horizons program to young women in Fort Worth.

The EYH program is an annual conference of math and science workshops created for seventh- and eighth-grade girls. Each year, about 300 young women attend and seventy professional women from the metroplex present STEM-related workshops.

This year’s conference is from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9. The conference opens in the Sid Richardson Center with registration and a Chemistry Magic Show presented by Katherine Prater and women in the chemistry department. The workshops will take place in classrooms on the Texas Wesleyan campus.

Jane Moore, professor of mathematics at Texas Wesleyan, leads the charge for the conference. 

“I find a lot of joy in helping young girls understand and gain confidence in math,” Moore said. “STEM fields have been historically predominated by men. Expanding Your Horizons helps us show young women that they can excel in these fields, too.”

Nearly two dozen middle schools participate from Fort Worth and other regional districts and private schools.
