Tri-Beta receives awards at science convention

04.13.2016 | By:

The Sigma Theta chapter of the Beta Beta Beta (Tri-Beta) Biological Honors Society students attended the South Central Regional Convention on April 1-3, 2016 and walked away with several top awards.

Tri-Beta is a national honor society dedicated to the pursuit of scholarly attainment, and investigation in the biological sciences, and to promote the dissemination of information and new interpretations among students of the life sciences.

Morgan Koen, Biology minor and Psychology major, presented her research on the effects of video games on competitiveness and won 1st place in the poster competition.

Maggie Biggs-Scribner (Biology major) won 2nd place for her oral presentation elucidating the function of glutamate transporters using planaria as a model neurobehavioral system.

Amanda Guirguis and Hillary Bell gave a phenomenal presentation to introduce our chapter activities for the previous year, which vaulted our BBB chapter to win 2nd place for the chapter of the year award.

To top it off, our chapter was nominated to co-host the 2017 regional Tri-Beta meeting. All of the students represented Texas Wesleyan University with great pride and scientific rigor. Join us in congratulating these students on their achievements.
