Texas Wesleyan psychology major Katie Brown has been awarded a Psi Chi regional travel grant to cover the cost of her attending the Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA) conference in Wichita, Kan., this April.
For the past year and a half, Brown has worked diligently on her research under the direction of Jay Brown, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology. As a Psi Chi member, Brown has an opportunity that most students do not: attending a professional conference, such as the SWPA event.
One of the biggest benefits of attending the conference is the chance to present her research. When you present a poster or a paper at SWPA, you gain experience, knowledge and confidence. You also become eligible to receive one of 12 regional research awards.
In preparation for this trip, Brown applied for the Psi Chi grant, which entailed writing essays and obtaining a recommendation letter. Brown not only received the grant, she was awarded the maximum amount of funding allowed for an individual, which will allow her to attend the conference at no personal expense.
The psychology department congratulates Katie Brown and wishes her the best of luck at SWPA in April!
