On Thursday, Feb. 15, Texas Wesleyan's Finance Club brought in a guest speaker, Fort Worth native Mark Pullam, an associate of Fidelity Investments.
The Finance Club provides its members with access to a variety of guest speakers who share their experience and provide potential internship opportunities for students.
During the workshop, Pullam spoke to students about the importance of networking and building relationships.
"You don' get a second chance to make a first impression," he said. "You have to find the things that bring you closer to your audience; the things that make you memorable. This is what can separate you from the pack."
Use every resource you have, to get to where you want to go in life said, Pullam.
"Use all the connections you have," he said. "One of your best resources are your professors. If you are one of the students they know and participate, they are more likely to help you outside of the classroom. Sometimes it's not what you know, but who you know."
Finance Club president and senior, Victoria Gallegos, expressed the importance of being active on campus and participating in workshops and meetings. She praised Pullam for taking the time to come back to Wesleyan to speak with students about relationship building.
"It is essential to be a part of an organization like the Finance Club," the finance major said. "We are constantly bringing in people that are already in the field, and I think it is very necessary for students to know about every opportunity they have."
Finance and management major, Conner Parish, was one of the many students who attended the workshop. Parish said he walked away with a lot of new information.
"You need to be able to learn about all different opportunities available to you," he said. “Learning techniques on how to progress through business by networking is probably the most important thing I took away from the workshop.”
If interested in attending the next workshop or meeting, keep an eye out for flyers hanging around the School of Business. For more information about the Finance Club, please email Victoria Gallegos at vgallegos@txwes.edu.
