Did you miss the LinkedIn workshop that was led by Dr. Lauren Brewer? Don’t worry we have you covered.
Beta Gamma Sigma asked Dr. Brewer, from the University of Texas at Arlington, to help students with their LinkedIn profiles. On Oct. 24, she helped students learn what LinkedIn is, its unique features, how to create a professional profile, and how to showcase yourself to employers.
LinkedIn is a professional networking site that allows you to create an interactive resume while connecting with employers, colleagues and professionals. You can also use LinkedIn to your advantage when it comes to applying for that job that you really want, since many companies post their job openings directly on LinkedIn. This allows them to get to know you better through your profile, so be sure that your profile is always up to date.
According to Dr. Brewer, when you are creating your LinkedIn profile it is very important to market your “personal brand” in a way that will help companies learn who you are and what you stand for. Your personal brand is a combination of things that companies should be able to learn about you by looking at your LinkedIn profile. Some of the components that make up your personal brand and should be incorporated into your LinkedIn profile are a small background story, personal values, passions, and goals.
Being able to showcase these components regarding your personal brand will help employers see why they should hire you over other applicants. If you have questions be sure to visit the School of Business’ YouTube page to see the full LinkedIn workshop.
