About Professor Webb

"My interest in teaching began when I was a student. I enjoyed the learning process and the interaction with my teachers and professors. As I watched those professors and learned from them, I could see that teaching was rewarding.

"I had several professors that really cared about their students and went out of their way to help their students. They had a sincere enthusiasm for the subject they were teaching and practical work experience that gave life to the subject. I have aspired to embody these same characteristics in my teaching. Interacting with my students and helping them to achieve their goals is what I enjoy most about teaching."

Dr. Webb started as an adjunct instructor at Texas Wesleyan in 1997, was a visiting professor, and moved to assistant professor in 2007. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Arlington in December 2014.

The fact that most of the business faculty at Texas Wesleyan have Ph.D.s and real-world work experience shows that the faculty are "very well qualified." Dr. Webb previously worked as a C.P.A. and contractor doing audit and tax work. "Professional work experience enables me to complement the academic and textbook knowledge in the classroom."

Texas Wesleyan’s faculty maintains contacts with the local accounting community to give students access to internship and job opportunities. "Also, each accounting faculty member is part of a local professional accounting organization and tries to encourage student membership and participation in these organizations."

A member of the Texas Society of CPAs and the local Fort Worth chapter, Dr. Webb enjoys taking students to the meetings when possible. "I think it is important to get involved with professional organizations during their years as a student to help them become aware of the various careers and help them begin to build their professional network."

As an undergraduate student, Dr. Webb began at a large state university and moved to a small, faith-based college. "It was so refreshing to me to be on the smaller campus where there was a strong sense of family and where I knew my professors cared about me. It was these same characteristics that attracted me to Texas Wesleyan and what I have enjoyed most about teaching at Wesleyan.

"The professors here truly care about the students and are willing to help students to reach their goals. When students need extra help with a topic, the professors are available to spend some one-on-one time to help reinforce the topic."

Dr. Webb serves as one of the accounting society’s faculty advisors. The group meets monthly and brings in guests from the accounting profession. "This provides students the chance to hear firsthand about the duties and responsibilities associated with that career path as well as the opportunity to ask any questions they may have. We also bring in representatives to provide students information about various professional certifications such as certified public accountant (C.P.A.), certified fraud examiner (C.F.E.), certified internal auditor (C.I.A), certified information systems auditor (C.I.S.A.), or certified management accountant (C.M.A.)."

The accounting society also completes service projects like cleaning up the Collard Street Bridge or volunteering with the Ft. Worth Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. "It is fun to work with the students on projects outside of the classroom."
