Texas Wesleyan University pursues its mission of providing transformational learning experiences and research opportunities to a diverse group of students to develop their full potential as individuals and as members of the world community. The University values and celebrates diversity as expressed throughout the Engage 2025 Strategic Plan and recruits students that are not only ethnically diverse, but also diverse in terms of ideology, socio-economic status, and family history of education. Providing access to higher education remains foundational to the University culture and operation.
At Texas Wesleyan University, the personal and dedicated attention from faculty and staff continues to be a priority. The University tagline, “Smaller.Smarter.” speaks to this value held by the institution. In addition to the small class size, the University strives to create a student experience grounded in high-impact and high-engagement practices. The engagement metrics, measured by regular administrations of the National Survey on Student Engagement (NSSE), serve as a second category of student achievement.
Texas Wesleyan University has a mission to develop graduates who are community and professional leaders, including preparation for graduate studies and professional careers. To that end, the University has additional measures of student achievement in the form of post-graduation activity. These measures reflect the mission of the University.
TXWES uses the following measures to document student achievement:

The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). TXWES administered the NSSE in 2016, 2018, 2020 and 2022. The University administers the survey every other year to its freshmen and senior classes in the spring semester. The results from NSSE are tracked and reviewed after each administration for the engagement indicators (EIs) as well as the degree to which those students utilize opportunities that are considered to be high-impact practices (HIPs) (i.e., study abroad). NSSE provides numerous indicators of student success markers and TXWES focuses on three specific measures that align with institutional mission and campus culture: Quality of Interactions, Higher-Order Learning, and Effective Teaching Practices. On these particular measures, TXWES seniors have consistently reported EIs at or above those of our peer-institution grouping. Similarly, TXWES seniors have been within a similar range of those at peer institutions of having participated in HIP experiences. The thresholds were met.
A single asterisk (*) denotes a met goal, and a double asterisk (**) denotes an unmet goal.
