Dr. Juan Quintana to receive Distinguished Alumni award at Alumni Medal Dinner

Dr. Juan Quintana MHS ’96, CRNA, DNP is an alumnus of Texas Wesleyan’s GPNA program and has served in many positions for both the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists and the Texas Association of Nurse Anesthetists including president. As president of Sleepy Anesthesia, founded in 1999, his anesthesia practice provides essential anesthesia for several rural hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers in Texas. He is co-owner of ABC Consultants, LLC and International Anesthesia Seminars, educating nurse anesthesia students on the business of anesthesia.

Dr. Quintana has been practicing anesthesia since 1997 and is a leader in the area of education and evaluation of cost-effectiveness and efficiency. A highly sought-after lecturer, he has been invited to speak at hospitals and numerous anesthesia meetings on the state and national levels. He also recently gave the keynote address at the Texas Wesleyan commencement ceremony. In 2010, Dr. Quintana became the first CRNA to serve on the Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Council (MEDCAC), an independent body that provides the Medicare agency guidance and expert advice on the science and technology affecting healthcare delivery. He currently co-chairs a Medicare expert panel and two other Medicare payment/quality development panels.

Dr. Quintana, who speaks both English and Spanish, received a doctorate of nursing practice degree from Texas Christian University (TCU), a master’s degree in health science from Texas Wesleyan University, and a bachelor’s degree in science from Texas Woman’s University (TWU). Since his graduation, Juan has participated in over 20 medical mission trips with a group called Healing the Children that administers healing care to children born with cleft lip and cleft palate deformities in various locations in South America. The group also provided emergency healthcare services to Haitians after their earthquake.

The Alumni Medal Dinner will be held at the Fort Worth Club on Friday, Oct. 13. The reception begins at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and a program at 7 p.m.
