Eric Montoya '07, M.Ed. '15 will receive the 2025 Wesleyan Service Award

The Texas Wesleyan Alumni Association is thrilled to announce Eric Montoya ’07, M.Ed. ’15 as the 2025 Wesleyan Service Award honoree! Known for his boundless school spirit, Eric might just be Texas Wesleyan’s most enthusiastic alumnus. He served on the Alumni Board for eight years, including two as President, and is a familiar face at just about every alumni event.
Born, raised, and educated in Fort Worth, Texas, Eric Montoya has dedicated his life to learning and serving his community. A proud product of Fort Worth ISD, Eric began his college journey at Tarrant County College before transferring to Texas Wesleyan University in the fall of 2005. He spent much of his time in Dan Waggoner Hall and worked on campus in the Eunice & James L. West Library.
In the fall of 2007, Eric completed his student teaching at Alice Carlson Applied Learning Center and graduated from Texas Wesleyan in December of that year. Just weeks later, he was offered a teaching position at Alice Carlson, where he taught for 10 years.
While teaching, Eric returned to Texas Wesleyan to pursue graduate studies in educational leadership. He began the program in January 2014, chose the administration track, and earned his master’s degree in December 2015. After continuing to teach until June 2017, Eric stepped into school leadership as an assistant principal. He has since served at JT Stevens Elementary School, Rosemont Elementary School, and, for the past five years, Lily B. Clayton Elementary School.
Eric’s connection to Texas Wesleyan extends far beyond the classroom. He participated in the very first Wesleyan 5K, later serving on the planning committee for future events. In January 2017, he joined the Texas Wesleyan Alumni Board, where he has served in nearly every leadership role, including secretary, vice president, president, and immediate past president. You’ll find Eric at most alumni events, and out in the community providing alumni pins to TXWES alumni he encounters.
Eric’s journey reflects a lifelong commitment to education, leadership, and giving back to the community that shaped him.
