Alicia Smith, a sophomore music major, is a 2016 Alumni Association Legacy Student Scholarship recipient.
“I am grateful to the Texas Wesleyan Alumni Association for making this scholarship available. I know that paying for college is a top financial worry for many parents, but having this scholarship has made a significant impact; it means a lot” Smith said.
Smith is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in music with an emphasis in piano. Her biggest inspiration is her grade-school piano teacher, who happens to be a Texas Wesleyan graduate.
“I have always desired to emulate my tutor," Smith, said. "I will likely develop a piano music academy and offer private lessons with the objective of impacting others in the same way that she has influenced me.”
Smith loves being involved with the Texas Wesleyan community as much as possible. She volunteers at events like graduation, the annual Spring Carnival and is a Ram Camp leader. She’s also a member of Beta Beta Beta, National Biology Honor Society, and the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.
“What I love most about Wesleyan is the strong sense of family or ‘Ramily’ as we say here. It helped me adjust during my freshman year,” Smith, said. “The community at Texas Wesleyan is like no other. I have met so many amazing people from various backgrounds and cultures.’”
