Texas Wesleyan University will posthumously award Dan Mahanay Boulware a Doctor of Laws degree during Spring Commencement, Saturday, May 14. His wife, Barbara, will accept the degree on his behalf.

Boulware passed away in March 2016 after a battle with lung cancer. Chairman of the Board Beverly Volkman Powell ’92 MBA ’99, who served many years with Boulware on Texas Wesleyan’s board, said his passion for life is what she recalls most about him.

“Dan was an all-in kind of guy,” Powell said. “He was passionate about so many things—his faith, his marriage, his family, his law career and his board service. Some of my favorite memories of Dan were watching him present every committee report to the board like he was arguing a case in a courtroom.”

Boulware served on the Board of Trustees of Texas Wesleyan University for nearly 20 years. He was first elected in 1996 and served as Chair of the Advancement Committee, Chair of the President Search Committee in 2000, Co-Chair of the Law School Capital Campaign as well as a member of the Executive Committee and as a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at Texas Wesleyan School of Law.

Beyond his service, Dan and Barbara were generous philanthropic supporters of Texas Wesleyan through their giving, including their support of the Martin Hall renovation, the Rosedale Renaissance, the Morton Fitness Center, and the Law School Campaign. They were instrumental in creating the MacLean Boulware Law School endowment, and they were also constant contributors to the Wesleyan Fund.

Boulware attended Texas Wesleyan University from 1965 through 1968 when he left to attend Baylor Law School, earning his juris doctor in 1969. His full obituary is available here.
