How was the Presidential Search Committee selected?

Chairman of the Texas Wesleyan Board of Trustees, Glenn Lewis, along with University leadership, identified potential search committee members from among faculty, staff, students, board members and alumni. The members of the search committee were selected because they bring a broad spectrum of experience, expertise and perspective to the work of searching for Texas Wesleyan's 21st president.

Will the university partner with a search consultant?

Yes. In addition to appointing a search committee, the University will retain an executive search firm and will implement a comprehensive engagement plan to ensure the opinions of our students, faculty, staff and TXWES community are considered.

Will there be an interim president?

As of right now, the presidential search committee and board of trustees do not foresee needing an interim president. With the work of the executive search firm, campus partners and the board, they believe a presidential candidate should be announced by May.

Who will determine the requirements and job description for Texas Wesleyan's next president?

This will be an inclusive process with the guidance of the executive search firm that is selected. This will include meeting with multiple stakeholder groups over the coming weeks to build a job profile that considers the needs of Texas Wesleyan University — now and in the future, based on our competitive position in the higher education landscape today. All the input will be collected and reviewed by the search committee and search consultant, and ultimately the full Board of Trustees.

Is the current president involved in the decision-making process for the new president?

President Slabach has graciously agreed to provide input into the requirements and key characteristics needed for the next president, as well as his view of key challenges for the future. However, as the decision of selecting the next president is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees, he will not participate in the decision-making process for selecting the next president.

How will this process and results be communicated as the search progresses?

There will be periodic updates provided by the search committee chair as important progress and milestones have been achieved. This will be in the form of email updates to various groups, as well as on the presidential search website.
