Texas Wesleyan has welcomed a new social fraternity to campus this semester.

Delta Sigma Phi, the newest addition to the Wesleyan Greek community, began the process of colonizing during the Spring 2016 semester. After a series of on-campus interviews and visits, David Monge, coordinator for student organizations and Greek life chose Delta Sigma Phi because he believes the organization has qualities that fit Wesleyan’s expectations of helping the community evolve and grow.

“Delta Sig [sic] provides meaningful experiences for potential new members through values-based education and has excellent leadership programming to spur growth in members,” he said. Monge also noted that their inclusive stance on individuals with different identities was also a primary factor in his decision to invite this specific fraternity to campus.

Senior and new member Mike Brown said, “We want Delta Sigma Phi to be a symbol of unity-in-action for the campus community. Our current membership represents individuals from all different areas across campus; different sports teams, majors, age groups, etc. are represented in our new organization, and we hope to be a resource that everyone in the university community can rely on, look to for support and demonstrate a willingness to go above and beyond to support our fellow students.”

“With all growth of the community, whether in student membership or in additions of chapters, there is an earnest desire for further elevation of the larger community,” Monge said.

The fraternity was founded in 1899 at City College of New York, and boasts more than 120,000 members over the lifetime of the organization. At Wesleyan, Delta Sigma Phi already has 23 members and plans to continue recruiting through the end of the semester.
