Texas Wesleyan takes action during National Homeless & Hunger Awareness Week

From Nov. 13-18, Texas Wesleyan is stepping up to address the critical issues of hunger and homelessness during National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week. The Office of Student Diversity and Inclusion Programs is organizing a series of impactful events and initiatives designed to raise awareness and inspire change within the Fort Worth community.

No one should have to worry about whether they will have food on their plate or a roof over their head. But the reality is that hunger and homelessness are widespread problems that affect far too many people. Become engaged in the conversation by participating in a range of activities that engage the campus community in participatory, educational, and reflective experiences.

Here's a snapshot of what to expect during Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week:

Resource Table: On Tuesday, Nov. 14, visit the Martin Center to access vital information about local resources and volunteer opportunities that support individuals facing homelessness and hunger.

Poverty Simulation: On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Texas Wesleyan is partnering with the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition and Catholic Charities to host a Poverty Simulation. Participants will gain insights into the daily challenges faced by low-income families as they work to secure food, shelter and basic necessities while interacting with various community resources. To participate, register here.

Community Conversation: Join us on Thursday, Nov. 16, for a Community Conversation that delves into the impact of hunger and homelessness has on our city. We are honored to welcome Shannon Barnes from the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition as a special guest. The conversation will take place in Lou's Place from 6-7 p.m., with refreshments provided.

Service Day: On Friday, Nov. 17, Texas Wesleyan invites you to volunteer in service to our community, which is directly affected by homelessness and food instability. RSVP through RamSpace or email bgardner01@txwes.edu to receive updates about service sites.
