On Saturday, May 18, seven students graduated from the history program at Texas Wesleyan. Spring Commencement was held in the MacGorman Chapel at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. The following students completed bachelor's degrees in history: David Estrada, Lane Kelly, Lynzie Moore, MacKenzie Redmon and Alex Sandles. Stephanie Acosta, Alanna James, and Joann Velasquez completed secondary teaching certification. Luke Womble, a political science major, completed a minor in history.
Of particular note this spring was Alanna James' induction into The Guardians of the Golden Shears, a student-led and student-nominated organization meant to recognize outstanding students. Alanna has also been instrumental in leading TXWES's Gay-Straight Alliance. Additionally, Lane Kelly had the added distinction of completing Departmental Honors in history with a thesis entitled, "Before the Reformaton: Jan Hus and Girolamo Savonarola."
All of the graduates participated in the Robing Ceremony in Martin Hall on Friday, May 17. A Wesleyan tradition dating back to 1927, the Robing Ceremony enables the graduate to honor the professor who has had a significant impact on their educational experience by allowing him/her to robe and hood the graduate.
