Wesleyan Scholars Honors Program names Dr. Ngozi Ankiro as new director

The Wesleyan Scholars Honors Program has named Associate Professor of Mass Communication Dr. Ngozi Akinro as its new director.

The search for the director of the program took place in spring 2022 and was open to Texas Wesleyan faculty. After rigorous interviews, the Honors Committee named the new director in April.

According to Associate Provost Dr. Steven Daniell, "the plan for the Honors Program is to continue to offer courses that provide students with the opportunity to explore subjects outside their major at a deeper level."

The plan is one Akinro believes in. With hard work, dedication, commitment and strategy, she hopes to continue to grow the program, showing enthusiasm and passion for the program's potential and value for students.

Daniell noted that ultimately the aim is to "grow the program to a level that multiple courses may be offered at the sophomore and upper levels each year, and perhaps create an interdisciplinary minor in Honors Studies."

Akinro, who intends to focus on building an Honors community and increasing program visibility and prestige, served as the chair of the Honors Committee from fall 2020 to spring 2022.
