About Physical Education

The physical education program at Texas Wesleyan is a comprehensive program that was developed to set graduates of the program ahead of our institutional peers. Our program is developed around the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) National Standards and the Texas Essentials Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Teacher Candidates will be given the opportunity to engage with kindergarten through secondary grade levels as well as gain experience working with children with disabilities. The teacher candidate will complete course work in methodology, assessment, health, as well as skill development in child motor development, outdoor education and lifetime activities to name a few.

Upon successful completion of the program, you will be certified as an All-Level Physical Education Teacher, EC -12 grades. In addition to your successful completion of the teacher preparation program, as part of your physical education degree, you will also complete course requirements to obtain a minor in coaching. With successful completion of your examination, you will be certified national through the American Sport Education Program (ASEP).
