Beginning Sept. 1, Ashley Newkirk and the Orientation coordinating responsibilities that she has held the past three years will join the Student Life team.
This summer is a transition period for Orientation, as New Student Programs and Student Life continue to learn, share and build on the hard work that has already been established to ensure an effective new student experience.
Academic Advising will continue to fulfill its mission through Amanda Novak and her team while this transition occurs.
New Student Orientation is a University-wide initiative, and the responsibility of recruiting and retaining high quality students belongs to every member of our campus community. Orientation is one way in which the University is able to come together in a meaningful and intentional way to deliver on our "Smaller. Smarter." brand promise.
New Student Orientation is a multidimensional program that necessitates strong, collaborative relationships across numerous campus partners. Academic Advising, Academic Support Services, Admissions, Faculty and Student Life can and should have strong roles in the student experience during Orientation.
These strong partnerships will continue to grow as we move into the future.
Transitioning the Orientation program to Student Life allows Academic Advising the chance to focus on critical academic components of Orientation. Student Life will focus on continuing to build upon the additional elements already in place for an Orientation steeped in tradition, which generates excitement and sets the stage for life as a Ram.
