Do you ever find yourself saying, “How do I get the word out about [insert topic here]?” Guess what? You don’t have to wonder anymore. Submit your story to run in the faculty and staff newsletter, the Wesleyan Flame.

Do people really read the Flame?

Now, your next question is probably, “Do people even read the Flame?” In fact, they do! On average about 53% of University employees open the Flame every time it's sent out and about 18% of people click on a story or event to read more details.

You might say those don’t seem like great results. You’re right – they’re awesome. In the education industry, open rates average from 17-22% and click rates average from 3-9%. Our numbers are double the highest industry standard.

How do I get my story in the Flame?

Getting your story in the Flame is as easy as checking a box – literally. When creating your story in TerminalFour (T4), our Content Management System (CMS), all you have to do is check the box next to “Flame” when choosing your display options.

Not trained in T4? The Office of Digital Marketing & Strategy regularly holds beginner training sessions. Visit our website to see when the next session is or to let us know you’re interested.

Top 3 tips for news stories

Here are our top 3 tips for writing news stories that will catch people’s attention and help you succeed.

  1. Write an active headline. Use phrases like “sign up today,” “make plans to attend,” or “learn more about”
  2. Select a featured image. A picture’s worth 1,000 words, so add one!
  3. Be short and sweet. Make sure you have all the necessary information, but don’t get too wordy.

So, the moral of the story? Submit your news to the Flame and get the word out about your program, office or campus organization.
