Shelter in Place
What to Do
- Enter nearest classroom or office. Do not try to go to your office if it isn’t the nearest one to you when a Shelter in Place has been called.
- Close doors and lock if possible. Stay away from all windows and doors.
- No one should leave the secured room until an all clear message is given by the appropriate authorities. An alert message will also be sent to announce the all clear has been given.
- If outside, go to the nearest open building, if secured and cannot gain entry, go to a vehicle or sturdy structure seeking cover and remaining out of sight. If close to your vehicle leave the area or go to security where you will be allowed inside.
A Shelter in Place may be used in the event of a bomb threat, hostage situation or any other situation where the amount of people walking through campus needs to be limited by emergency personnel.
If an active shooter is on campus and/or gunshots are heard, follow the Active Shooter protocol.
